What do you do with a car that was a Goodguy’s Hot Rod of the Year finalist in 2010? You blow it apart and redo it for 2011!
There were some things that needed fixin’ so we stripped the car down, put the chassis on the table, and started over. The floors and firewall are now steel and a custom fabbed 3 link utilizing DSE swivel link bars with rubber bushings replaces the ladder bar setup. We added a 5.3 liter engine out of a 2010 Silverado with a Mast Motorsports wiring harness and camshaft. A Keisler T45 sends power back to a TrueTrac, 3.70 geared 9″.
We also added a DSE power steering box and a quick disconnect steering wheel. A Frame-Up fabbed stainless exhaust with Hushpowers and all stainless plumbing underneath the car with Phenix Performance Plumbing fittings at all the ends.
The car is now equipped with Wilwood 6 piston calipers with 12 and 13″ rotors and the first GMR floating hub kit to hit the streets. We also swapped the Shockwaves for Ridetech’s new triple adjustable coil-over shocks with 175-pound springs.
We got the car running mid-summer 2011 in time to DRIVE to and win 4 Goodguy’s autocross events including Charlotte where Donny just missed a top-five for overall time and Angela was one of 10 drivers to run in the 39 second range.
